Our Dream is for You to Dream More
We created Restasy because of our own battles with insomnia and stress. Aside from prescription medications, weighted blankets have had the greatest impact on finding relief, and an escape from those dreaded pills. Restasy was created to help others discover this and other natural and healthy options for managing stress and getting quality sleep.
Nobody likes counting sheep…except maybe shepherds
“We spend about one-third of our life either sleeping or attempting to do so” Let that quote from the Handbook of Clinical Neurology sink in for a second. We’ve all probably heard that we spend about 1/3 of our lives sleeping, but that’s not exactly true for those who suffer from insomnia or other sleep disorders.
If you’re going to spend that much of your life in bed, wouldn’t you rather use that full time to actually sleep and reap the benefits of sleep and full rest for your mind and body?
Weighted Blanket for Natural Balance and Wellbeing
Isn’t it just a heavy blanket? Sort of, yes. And that’s what is so remarkable about it.
The extra weight in a weighted blanket provides a gentle pressure across your entire body. This sensation reaches your brain and triggers responses in your nervous system as if you are receiving an embracing hug.
You know that warm “everything-is-going-to-be-all-right” feeling you get from a good hug? Well the response your body has to a weighted blanket is similar.
Trust us for a moment and give this a try…
- Close your eyes (but not until after you read all the instructions)
- Wrap your arms around your chest like you’re giving yourself a hug
- Take a deep breath in and slowly let that breath out
How did that feel? Did it even make you a tiny bit more relaxed than before?
In scientific terms, your brain tells your endocrine system to increase serotonin (the happy hormone) and decrease cortisol (the stress hormone). This leads to a naturally lower stress and anxiety level. Serotonin is the precursor to melatonin (the sleep hormone), meaning you’ll be able to fall asleep while alleviating stress.
Anxiety and Stress Relief
There is a reason people often call these anti-stress blankets. There have been multiple studies showing that the deep pressure therapy (DPT) from weighted blankets can go a long way in naturally lowering chronic stress and anxiety.
Better Sleep / Sleep Disorders
Weighted blankets have been shown to help people that have trouble falling asleep and/or staying asleep throughout the night. Studies show these are often great treatments for insomnia and restless leg syndrome as well.
Promoting Overall Well-Being
The hormones released thanks to the DTP (oxytocin, melatonin, and serotonin) can bring you to a calm state and a feeling of security and happiness. The addition of restful sleep may also contribute to starting each day off in a better mood you can carry on throughout the day.
There are plenty of additional benefits of weighted blankets that are backed by science such as treatment of PTSD, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Asperger’s. Weighted blankets are still a fairly new concept, and time will tell what else they may help with.
Start a Conversation
A major goal of Restasy is to help start conversations about mental health and sleep issues. We aim to design our blankets to have neutral tones that look beautiful in any room. So many other weighted blankets look so “medical” and get hidden in bedrooms around the world.
We hope that you love your Restasy blanket so much that you are proud to leave it on your couch for guests to see and try. We’ll consider ourselves a success if this starts a conversation that leads to another person finding a common connection and/or a new method to calm their own minds.
We’re more than just a blanket company
At the moment, we only sell blankets. We do have big plans to expand in the future for you. In addition to selling blankets, we give away helpful stories, tips, and research to those seeking help with anxiety and sleep disorders. We also strive to help others discover the benefits of self-care and natural healing.
We would love to invite you to subscribe to our free newsletter where we share all of this, along with any discounts and product announcements.
